Meet Orianthi Panagaris, talented musician, guitarist and performer extraordinaire!!

Orianthi’s story begins in Adelaide, in South Australia where, she was born to Greek Australian parents on January 22, 1985.At the age of six, Orianthi began taking an interest in her dad’s record collection. «Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Cream, Santana… he was into guitar players that are real songwriters,» she boasts.Growing up in the 80s, a decade remembered for its many guitar greats, Orianthi listened to a lot of Whitesnake, Van Halen and Def Leppard. Her father, who used to be a player in a Greek band, also kept plenty of instruments around the house, and it didn’t take long before Orianthi strummed her first chord. Mastering the six-string came naturally.
When I was 11, Carlos Santana came to play in Adelaide and that show really affected me,» she recounts. “I begged my dad to get me a second hand electric guitar so I could be like Carlos, and that was it, no more acoustic. After that, I would buy all of Carlos’ videos — on VHS! — which I kept rewinding to try and learn his solos. I totally wore out the tape.Some seven years later when Carlos Santana passed through Adelaide again , she tells us on My Space,I had the opportunity to meet and jam with Carlos Santana when I was 18 in my hometown. He invited me to get up and jam with him at soundcheck then later asked me if I would join him on stage that night to jam! It was an awesome experience to meet and jam with my idol…dreams really do come true!
Performances, tours and guest appearances with Steve Vai, ZZ Top and Prince have kept Orianthi busy up to now, and at the age of 24, Orianthi has already experienced what most aspiring musicians only dream of - she’s opened for her hero (Steve Vai), backed an Idol (Carrie Underwood), and traded solos with a legend (Carlos Santana), a Santana who had this to say about Orianthi…
If I was going to pass the baton to somebody, my first choice would be her!!!
Her electrifying performance with Carrie Underwood on stage at the 2009 Grammy Awards set the blogosphere buzzing with news of this little-known guitar prodigy. It prompted Michael Jackson to call with an offer for her to be his guitarist for his upcoming This is It concerts at the O2 Arena in London, following a prestigious line of guitar players including Eddie Van Halen, Santana, Slash, Steve Stevens, Jennifer Batten and Larry Carlton.
The world at large found out about Orianthi , and her amazing talent, when the Michael Jackson last rehearsal video was released just after Michael’s untimely death, and this brilliant young Greek Australian guitarist was literally catapulted on to the international stage.A visibly moved Orianthi also performed on stage at Michael Jackson’s Memorial service joining in the tribute to the King of Pop We Are The World - his legendary song written with Lionel Ritchie for the children of Africa
We are sure we will hear a lot about this extremely talented young woman who now lives in Los Angeles and is preparing for her next album with Geffen Records.

I am so grateful to have been able to play guitar with Michael Jackson and the band. Working with Michael was a life-changing experience, one I will never forget. It was awesome watching Michael dance and sing at rehearsals with us. He looked so happy. He was a musical icon and wonderful person and he has left us all too soon. I am really saddened by Michael’s passing and send my deepest condolences to his family.You will be hearing more from me soon as I need some time to reflect».

Διεθνείς Έλληνες Καλλιτέχνες: Η ταλαντούχος μουσικός και κιθαρίστας Eλληνοαυστραλή Οριάνθη Παναγάρη!
Η ιστορία της Οριάνθης ξεκινά στην Αδελαίδα, στη νότια Αυστραλία, όπου γεννήθηκε από ελληνοαυστραλούς γονείς, στις 22 Ιανουαρίου 1985. Στην ηλικία των 6 ετών, η Οριάνθη άρχισε να ενδιαφέρεται για τη συλλογή δίσκων του πατέρα της, με Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Santana κλπ. Μεγαλώνοντας, στη δεκαετία του 80, μια δεκαετία γνωστή για τις μεγάλες επιτυχίες με κιθάρα, η Οριάνθη άκουγε Whitesnake, Van Halen και Def Leppard.Ο πατέρας της, που ήταν μέλος σε ελληνικό συγκρότημα, είχε πολλά μουσικά όργανα στο σπίτι και δεν πέρασε πολύς καιρός πριν η Οριάνθη ακουμπήσει για πρώτη φορά τις χορδές της κιθάρας. Το να γίνει λοιπόν εξπέρ στην 6χορδη κιθάρα ήταν κάτι το απολύτως φυσιολογικό.
Όταν ήμουν 6 ετών, έχει πει η ίδια, ο Carlos Santana ήρθε να παίξει στην Αδελαίδα και αυτή η παράταση με επηρέασε πραγματικά. Παρακάλεσα τότε το μπαμπά μου να μου αγοράσει μια δεύτερη ηλεκτρική κιθάρα, για να μπορώ να είμαι σαν τον Carlos και έτσι έγινε, άφησα πια την ακουστική κιθάρα. Μετά από αυτό, αγόρασα όλα τα videos του Carlos Santana και προσπαθούσα να μάθω τα solo του. & περίπου χρόνια αργότερα, όταν ο Carlos πέρασε από την Αδελαίδα ξανά, λέει η Οριάνθη στο My Space, είχα την ευκαιρία να τον συναντήσω . Με προσκάλεσε να συμμετέχω στη ρύθμιση του ήχου του και αργότερα με ρώτησε αν θα τον συνόδευα στη σκηνή το βράδυ! Ήταν για μένα, συνεχίζει η Οριάνθη, μια εξαιρετική εμπειρία να συναντήσω και να παίξω μουσική μαζί με το είδωλο μου, κι ήμουν 18 χρονών… Τα όνειρα στ’ αλήθεια γίνονται πραγματικότητα!
Παραστάσεις, περιοδείες και guest εμφανίσεις με τον Steve Vai, ZZ Tops και τον Prince, κράτησαν την Οριάνθη απασχολημένη έως σήμερα και στην ηλικία των 24 ετών της αυτή είχε ήδη πραγματοποιήσει όσα άλλοι μουσικοί είχαν μόνο ονειρευτεί. Ο Carlo Santana είπε για την Οριάνθη ένα επρόκειτο να ορίσω κάποιον διάδοχο, η πρώτη μου επιλογή θα ήταν αυτή»!
Η παράσταση της με την Carne Underwood στη σκηνή στην απονομή των βραβείων Grammy 2009 έκανε τα blogs να ασχολούνται συνεχώς μαζί της. Ο ίδιους ο Michael Jackson της πρότεινε να είναι η κιθαρίστα του για τα επερχόμενα «This Is It» κονσέρτα του στην 02 Arena στο |»Λονδίνο ακολουθώντας μια σειρά από κιθαρίστες, συμπεριλαμβανομένων των Eddie Van Hallen, Santana, Slash, Steve Stevens, Jennifer Batten Larry Carlto κλπ.
Ο κόσμος είχε μάθει πια για την Οριάνθη και το εκπληκτικό της ταλέντο, όταν παρουσιάστηκε το βίντεο με την τελική πρόβα του Michael Jackson αμέσως μετά το θάνατο του, και η λαμπρή αυτή νέα ελληνοαυστραλή καλλίτεχνις κατακτά πια τη διεθνή σκηνή.
Τέλος, είδαμε την Οριάνθη εμφανώς συγκινημένη να παρουσιάζεται στη σκηνή της τελετής στη μνήμη του Michael Jackson συνοδεύοντας στο αφιέρωμα στο βασιλιά της POP το “We are the world”, το θρυλικό τραγούδι που έγραψε ο Lionel Ritchie για τα παιδιά της Αφρικής.
Είμαστε σίγουροι ότι θα ακούσουμε πολλά στο μέλλον για την εξαιρετικά ταλαντούχα Οριάνθη, που τώρα ζει στο Λος Άντζελες και προετοιμάζεται για το επόμενο album της με την Geffen Records. Προς το παρόν θα τελειώσουμε το μικρό αυτό άρθρο με το μήνυμα της για τους επισκέπτες της ιστοσελίδας της:
«Θέλω να σας ευχαριστήσω όλους για την υποστήριξη και τα μηνύματα σας. Είμαι τόσο ευγνώμων που μπόρεσα να παίξω κιθάρα με το Michael Jackson και το συγκρότημα. Το να δουλεύω με τον Michael ήταν μια εμπειρία που μου άλλαξε τη ζωή, που δε θα ξεχάσω ποτέ. Ήμουν γοητευμένη όταν τον έβλεπα να χορεύει και να τραγουδά στις πρόβες μαζί μας. Φαινόταν τόσο ευτυχισμένος! Ήταν ένας υπέροχος μουσικός και άνθρωπος και μας άφησε τόσο σύντομα… Πραγματικά εξεπλάγην με το θάνατο του και στέλνω τα βαθύτατα τα συλλυπητήρια μου στην οικογένεια του.
Θα ακούσετε περισσότερα από εμένα σύντομα. Χρειάζομαι λίγο χρόνο για να αντιδράσω»
