Perfecture of Kavala - Νομός Καβάλας
This prefecture is one of the most renowned tourist destinations in Northern Greece – and for good reason! The capital is the city of Kavala, one of the most beautiful cities in Greece. The prefecture has a long and rich history, as it has been inhabited since prehistoric times. In antiquity, the area was a financial powerhouse and home to important cities, such as ancient Krinides (the city over which Philippoi was later built) and Neapoli (the ancient city on which present-day Kavala was built). Throughout the prefecture there are picturesque villages, beautiful beaches and many landmarks and sights. Traveling through the area, visitors have a lot to see and discover. Ancient Philippoi is certainly one of the most important monuments in the prefecture; also of interest are the ancient mines at Eleftheroupoli. The prefecture doesn’t lack in beautiful landscapes; first of all, the local beaches are crowded every summer, and for good reason. Other great landscapes include the verdant area surrounding the Nestos river, and Mount Paggaio, one of the most spectacular mountains in Northern Greece. Eίναι ένας από τους ωραιότερους και τους πιο ανεπτυγμένους τουριστικά νομούς της Ελλάδας. Με πρωτεύουσα του την πόλη της Καβάλας, ο νομός διαθέτει αιώνες ιστορικού παρελθόντος αλλά και σημαντική φυσική ομορφιά. Εδώ υπήρχαν σημαντικές πόλεις της αρχαιότητας, όπως οι αρχαίες Κρηνίδες (εκεί που αργότερα αναπτύχθηκε η πόλη Φίλιπποι) και η αρχαία Νεάπολη (εκεί που αργότερα αναπτύχθηκε η σημερινή Καβάλα. Η πρωτεύουσα του νομού είναι πανέμορφη και πολύ γραφική και την επισκέπτεται κάθε χρόνο πάρα πολύς κόσμος. Ο ποταμός Νέστος, καθώς και το όρος Παγγαίο, δίνουν ξεχωριστή λάμψη στον νομό, ενώ οι παραλίες της περιοχής είναι πανέμορφες και τις απολαμβάνουν κάθε χρόνο πάρα πολλοί επισκέπτες.
