Kastoria – Καστοριά
Kastoria lays on a peninsula around the lake that bares the same name! It offers natural environment of unique beauty, discovered all and more often year after year by many foreign visitors too. The town was built over the remains of the ancient city of Keletron. The name of the town comes from the beavers that lived in the lake (beaver in Greek is called Kastoras). The locals are mostly occupied with the fur treatment and trade as the furs of Kastoria are famous worldwide for their unique quality. It is the fur trade that keeps the town alive and robust economically. The mansions of Kastoria are famous for their beauty and were built mostly in the 18th century, a clear show off message of the wealth of its inhabitants. These mansions are a favorite site for the visitors nowadays as well as the many Byzantine Churches of the town. But the greatest beauty one can enjoy here and never has enough of is the gorgeous view of the lake!
Η Καστοριά απλώνεται νωχελικά σε μια χερσόνησο, γύρω από τη λίμνη της! Μοναδικής ομορφιάς το φυσικό τοπίο, ανακαλύπτεται από ολοένα και περισσότερους επισκέπτες κάθε χρόνο! Τα τελευταία μάλιστα χρόνια την Καστοριά την ανακαλύπτουν όλο και περισσότεροι τουρίστες από το εξωτερικό! Η πόλη είναι χτισμένη στη θέση της αρχαίας πόλης Κέλετρον. Το όνομα της λέγεται ότι το πήρε από τους κάστορες, που ζούσαν στη λίμνη. Οι κάτοικοι της πόλης ασχολήθηκαν συστηματικά με τη γουνοποιία. Το αποτέλεσμα ήταν η οικονομική ευρωστίας της πόλης. Ονομαστά είναι τα καστοριανά αρχοντικά, δείγμα του πλούτου των κατοίκων, που κατασκευάστηκαν σε παραδοσιακό αρχιτεκτονικό ρυθμό τον 18o αιώνα περίπου. Σήμερα ο επισκέπτης μπορεί να θαυμάσει τα αρχοντικά της πόλης καθώς και τις πολλές της βυζαντινές εκκλησίες. Πάνω από όλα όμως, μπορεί να απολαύσει την ομορφιά της λίμνης!
