The strange carnivalists of Sochos ,Thessaloniki
Every year, the inhabitants of the village called Sochos, in the prefecture of Thessaloniki, celebrate the carnival in a special way. They dress up with a strange outfit, representing a goat, wearing big bells and walking slowly, making these bells ring. The sound of the bell melody echoes across the entire area of Sochos. This custom has its roots in the ancient Greek ceremonies in honor of God Dionysus and is preserved to our days.
Κάθε χρόνο, οι κάτοικοι του Σοχού Θεσσαλονίκης γιορτάζουν το καρναβάλι με έναν ιδιαίτερο τρόπο. Ντύνονται με μια παράξενη στολή, που αναπαριστά τράγο, φορούν μεγάλα κουδούνια και περπατάνε αργά κάνοντας τα κουδούνια αυτά να χτυπούν. Ο ήχος της μελωδίας των κουδουνιών αντηχεί σε όλη την περιοχή του Σοχού. Το έθιμο αυτό των κουδουνοφόρων του Σοχού έχει τις ρίζες του στις αρχαίες ελληνικές τελετές προς τιμήν του Θεού Διόνυσου και σώζεται ως τις ημέρες μας
